Thoughts And Whatnots: Instagraming

Hello all.

It’s Thursday (already!) And I’m slowly but surely readjusting to this cold, dreary, New England-esq winter. A part of me can’t help but to be nostalgic but it seems Andrew is more than me. He’s already adamant about wanting another vacation. Can I really blame him- Not at all! I’m ready too πŸ™‚

In the meantime…

Today I want to ask YOURΒ opinion on a topic that Britt and I ponder from time to time.

Is it annoying to post more than 1 Instagram picture a day?Β

Jenny’s Opinion:Β For me, my Instagram is my personal photo album or scrapbook if you will.Β So no, I don’t care what I post throughout the day, and if I have several cool pictures I want to post, I’ll doΒ it. I definitely agree, it’s tedious seeing the same person post picture after picture but in the end it’s their Insta, they can postΒ what they want and when they want. Whether you’re a hairdresser posting your work, you’re a petΒ lover posting photos of your cat/dog, whatever it is- do it as much as you please.

Britt’s Opinion: “It can be annoying with some people, if it’s people you don’t want to see or promotional posts. If it’s people you want to see, then post as many as you want! Your Instagram is for you, do what you want! I feel awkward sometimes posting more than 1 because I’m afraid that people will think I’m being obnoxious.”

Britt, I totally agree with that last statement- just because I’m thinking that Insta is my “personal photo album, so IDC”- doesn’t mean people know that I’m thinking that. They may automatically assume I’m trying to show off, Β am”being obnoxious”, whatever it is they could get the wrong message and thatΒ makes me feel weary at times too.

Which leads me to….

Do people even actually care?

The majority of my Instagram activity I’d say is fairly low compared to others. I probably post 1 every 5 days or so (Aside from the bulk of Miami pictures the one I posted before that was Jan 14th and the one before that Jan 8th)… of course, pending on what I do with my days. Which usually M-F is work; so nothing LOL. But I find that my usage is highest when I’m of course traveling, day trips, weekends, etc…

And when I’m traveling that’sΒ when I start posting more than 1 a day… Like so,

Miami:

2

Disney World3

Sarasota4

But like I said, it’s my photo album and the best perk is that it keeps track of the actual dates! So YES, I like to post as it happens so I have the actual date references. Timehop much?!

Okay, now’s YOUR turn! I want to hear from all of you- your opinion on this topic! Let me know…

Also, please leave your Instagram username along with your comment. If I’m not already following you- I’d love to and I’m sure other people who scroll down would likeΒ to network as well!Β

xo, JJ

  3. Yeah I think it’s fine to post more than once a day, it doesn’t bother me. Although I did have to unfollow someone once because all they posted was selfies everyday, not even amazing wow you had to share that type selfies, pretty bog standard selfies doing the same pose. Her choice of course but it wasn’t for me lol.
I think at the end of the day, its your Instagram, do what YOU want!! I’ll do what I like with my insta and if people like, they can follow if not, they don’t have to follow me πŸ™‚ xx

I love Insta and it is my main use of social media. I use it way more then FB Twitter snapchat etc. I can get photo happy which is usually during vacations or when friends visit me so I try to restrain myself to three a day during those occasions. I will also continuously post those pics long after the event after all that is what #latergram is for ;p

Oh yesss, I love a #latergram and #tbt and #fbf, I’m that person that will continuously post more after the fact too. No shame…. If I miss something and want to remember it, you better believe I’ll post it lol But same I get instahappy when I’m actually doing something which isn’t too often since full time jobs are a thing lol but I’d say 3 is perfect when you have an abundant to share!

Honestly, I don’t care. I know people that post a few times a day, but just when they’re on vacation or doing something really cool, so that’s fine. But in the end your Instagram is yours and you should dictate what/when you post not some invisible rulebook everyone seems to know about. πŸ™‚ Oh and my Instagram is @aliciaheninger

Lol right, “the invisible rule book” I like that. Ohhh thats such a smart idea to have one for each! Is there a way to have both accounts on at the same time (not having to sign out of one to get to the other)?

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Yes there is. I have the app and when I want to switch I click the icon for my profile and it has a drop down bar at the top to switch. I think I created a second account for my blog, then ‘add account’ in settings and you put the info in there then you can just switch between the two. I’m sure that’s all I had to do! Hope that helps x

  10. I don’t care either. If I like someone’s instagram, I’m not bothered if I get to see several pics a day. If you would post pics all the time, I wasn’t interested in, I wouldn’t follow you. And the thing is, you shouldn’t care either. It’s your Instagram account. Nobody’s forced to follow you, they did that on their own accord, so they must like the content, which is obviously amazing ;). xoxo Sarah

Yesss Sarah preach!!! I agree, we follow and unfollow people for a reason and I know for my own personal feed, I only follow those who I wish to see. I personally love all the photos people post and see what they’re seeing. It’s my favorite way to be exposed to places and things I didn’t know existed!!

      1. Indeed, it’s almost like you’re there, being a little bit part of it. And getting some serious good ideas for a little trip or a longer vacation! This whole sharing community is so nice. You get to learn so much more, especially about places that are not as well known! Anyhows, happy Friday!!!! xoxo Sarah

      2. Also, this topic wouldn’t let go of me haha. I’ve been thinking (it happens sometimes) and we also need to consider the law of the numbers. Say you cater your Instagram account towards your followers and you indeed earn money out of it. I can then understand you’d pay attention to their needs. If 20 people were to complain about your posting routine. It seems like a lot. But if you consider you have 10.000 followers, these 20 mean little…

        Liked by 1 person

      3. xoJenny says:

That is so true when you put it that way in regards to the follower account. And I was also thinking since instagram no longer even puts your feed in chronological order, it’s pretty hard to keep track of how much people post within a day anyways! So more of a reason to not worry about that nonsense πŸ™‚

I agree with the idea that instagram is essentially your own personal scrapbook, so you should post when and what you feel happy about. There shouldn’t be any rules to it ya know? if people don’t like it they don’t have to view it! Nice post though:)

    1. xoJenny says:

Oh Amy, I totally 100% agree. There really are no rules when it comes to your social media- only made up ones in peoples heads, you’re free to do as you please! And if anyone cares- there’s an unfollow button! Thanks for reading and for your thoughts on the topic πŸ™‚

  12. I know of some people who post 2-3 times a day. I think its fine. I mean if someone were to follow you they would like that anyway, otherwise they would unfollow you. So yeh you cant please everyone so do what you like. I just post once a day, sometimes I skip weekends and sometimes I do it. Just depends.

I don’t care what, when, or how much someone is posting as long as it’s not 10x a day or porn. On the exploring tab, I’ve seen mini porn vids or pic of naked amateurs and its really disturbing, but that’s not on my feed, thank God. Other than that, don’t really care. I usually don’t post more than twice a day, and that’s if I post at all, lol. Like you said Jenny, I’m basically at work/school Mon-Fri. Too busy.

I agree that I think the rule is silly, it’s for you and if someone has a problem, gotta just say GIRL BYE. I need to take that advice though still… I’m wayyyy too concerned before I post a picture about those rules. I get that Instanxiety and need to remind myself that I am keeping these pictures for myself, not anyone else. I absolutely love how you asked for everyone’s instas!!!!! I can’t wait to go follow everyone! XOXO

Instanxiety is totallly a thing, I for sure had it for a while too (and still occasionally do from time to time) but then I was seeing hair dressers posting 3,4,5+ pictures a day of their work, people posting nonstop selfies on the reg…and I was like wait, who even actually cares?! So post away girl, I can tell ya that I like seeing your pictures!!! πŸ™‚ xo

  19. It’s definitely up to the person how many times they post! I’ve seen advice that you should post three or four times a day to ‘stay active’ for your followers but that just seems a little stressful! Personally, it should be what feels natural so if you feel like posting something when you’re on holiday then go for it! I don’t think it’s showing off at all ☺️ I loveeeee seeing holiday snaps! And your ones are so lovely from your trips πŸ’› xxx

    Liked by 1 person

    1. xoJenny says:

Yes I love your thoughts on this, you’re so right, “whatever feels natural” is the way to go. I think it’s totally legitimate to post at least 1-4 times a day to stay active- I wish I had that much material and content to post but like you said, its stressful! Lol I guess its a good excuse to just go on more little adventures and trips though πŸ˜‰
