Weekend Recap

So last Friday I said I was going to be back on here by Monday.. even with the 3-day weekend (President’s Day). Butttt I was wrong. I attempted to- but no cigar.

So today is my weekend recap. I’m going to try to make it short and sweet, because of all ya’ll weekend posters- I have a lot of catching up that I want to do 🙂

FRIDAY NIGHT

Andrew and I decided to have our Valentine’s dinner date- so we made reservations at Glenville Stops, a place we went to before in Allston, with the $1 oysters (I was so excited)

Well, we drove all the way there- could not find a single parking spot (if you know Allston-Brighton in Boston, it’s like the nice hipster area but with ZERO parking anywhere. Cars are lined up bumper to bumper along narrow streets, its just not my cup of tea) So we left called some other places but wait times were 1hr+ but inevitably we did find a place to go in the town over in Watertown…

My handsome date 🙂 and my meal: steak & ‘boom boom’ shrimp. If I could’ve just had a plate full of that shrimp- yummm….

And a little bonus, I FINALLY ordered new glasses frames with my updated prescription. If you’re someone with bad eyesight then you can understand my excitement- I can’t wait to see things more clearly again.3He’s either sleeping or bored 😉

SATURDAY

On this particular Saturday, I was so excited because Andrew and I were going to take the trip up North to see the Ice Castles in Lincoln, NH. It’s a little over a 2 hour drive for us to get there (4 hours total, mind you, there and back) so we off we went.

(PS- these are my favorite sweatshirts. I have it in this color, maroon which you’ll see soon, and a purple…all from Primark)

So we’re en route5

Andrew grew up in NH and knew of this good pizza place so we stopped for lunch

Really cute place and really good brick oven pizza. Once our stomachs were full we continued our journey…

And then we FINALLY MADE IT.

The Ice Castles…. (from outside)7A few things to take note of 1. Can you see that it took us quite some time to get to because it’s now pitch black out from when we were eating pizza

2. Neither of us knew what this place was really about. I’ve only ever seen pictures of it, some people I know have been and said it was cool. I envisioned it being like a ‘castle’ walk-through and at night they light it up different colors…

Well, turns out you need to buy tickets in advance and pick a time slot because they were SOLD OUT…Until today- TUESDAY! We went SATURDAY.

Can you feel our disappointment. I mean poor Andrew just drove our butts 2 hours there just to have to get back in the car and drive another 2 hours home… complete bummer.

After getting back home we did watch a fairly decent movie; Arrival. Anyone else see it?!

SUNDAY

I was excited this day too because Renee and Beka both decided to come up and visit and we planned a nice little girls date; lunch and to go see 50 Shades Darker.

They got to my apartment and this happened8We’re all just on the same wavelength apparently LOL (also-sweatshirt in maroon, which I’ve worn and showed it on the blog before….)

Back to my lovely lunch dates; Beka left, Renee right (you can read about them HERE if you haven’t already)9

The movie was…exactly how I expected. Neither great nor terrible… Better than the first one for sure but not nearly as good as the books.

So happy to see these two. We couldn’t remember the last time the 3 of us all hung out but we were sadly missing our 4th who was at home with her little one.

That Night

Andrew and I decided to go venture out in Harvard Square for dinner like we used to when we lived in Somerville. If you can recall these adventures in some previous posts….

We were feeling awfully nostalgic of our whereabouts but frankly, I’m perfectly happy where we are now… still city-ish but more suburb-y. I don’t miss driving among bikers, walkers, and not being able to find parking.

But we did try a new place we haven’t been before called PARK, which I’ve heard on multiple occasions wonderful things about their dining and food.

And they weren’t kidding…it was probably one of the best meals I’ve had at a restaurant in a while. Everything was cooked to perfection. I got the brisket with brussel sprouts, and corn bread. And guys, I typically dislike cornbread, but I ate ALL of it on here. It was so good and I’m still dreaming of it.

And my love ❤

We I (Andrew fell asleep) ended the night watching THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN. I haven’t read the book but WOW, that movie was really good. Definitely a movie I’d watch again and I’m not typically one to rewatch a movie over again unless it’s one of my few select favorites. I really liked this one!

The weekend didn’t end there, we still had Monday BUTTT I’ll be sharing that tomorrow.

In the meantime, I’m off to do some blog reading!

xo, JJ

Sad to hear that the ice castle thing wasn’t as expected:( at least you got delicious pizza! Haha, love how you and your friends accidentally matched outfits! That has happened to me before as well, maybe it’s a friend thing? The food you ate looks delicious, seems like you all in all had a great weekend! xx

Thats what I was saying to Andrew, “well at least we ate good pizza” haha I felt so bad that he drove us all the way there and back for nothing but he was a good sport about it. The matching outfits was so funny- definitely a friend thing 😉 Thanks for reading girl ❤

Dang girl, $1 oysters?!?! That’s not bad, I think there are some places here in Austin that have 50 cent oysters for happy hour. Girl, I see those Hunter boots!!!!! I want some so badddddd, ahhhhh!!!! And omg, so jealous you saw 50 shades Darker. I used to love those books so much with the first book being my least favorite and the last one being my top favorite. It’s good that this movie was better than the first – hopefully they’ll continue doing the series and the last one will be the best, lol. Have a great weekend, chica. ❤

No way, 50 cent oysters?!!? Just another reason why I need to move down to Texas lol I loveee these Hunters so much, I seriously want them in every color now- why must they be so expensive *cries* But yeah 50 shades….sigh, definitely not nearly as good as the books but still watch-able 🙂 Thanks for reading girlie xo

Sounds like another lovely weekend, despite a couple of things not working out! I can’t imagine how disappointed you guys must have been to drive all that way and find it was sold out 😞 definitely a sign though and it just means you have an excuse to return in the future! I loveeeee wood fired pizzas and I actually had one this weekend too! I love that where you got yours from specialises in them! And how funny that all three of you turned out to have matching top parts of your outfits hahaha that’s definitely true friendship! And how lovely that you and Andrew decided to return to where you used to live and spend time in – it must have felt super special and nostalgic like you said! Also, how good is Andrew with selfies – you are seriously lucky there, Jenny! Hahahaha. Dave is always like ‘but we took one last weekend…’ or he’ll give up after two or three goes despite me having weird eyes or hair in my face 😅 xxx

LOL oh man don’t let the good pictures fool you, Andrew is the same way as Dave! It must be a guy thing… I’m just so particular with pictures esp selfies (and he knows) so I’m over here trying 100 different angles and tries but sometimes (when he’s in the mood) he’ll thankfully keep trying with me lol Sometimes it’s just not easy taking a good selfie. The matching maroon tops were hilarious the waitress commented on it and was like “woah did you guys plan it” and when we told her no it just happened that way she was like “ohhhh so you guys are just best friend goals” LOL it was too funny. Thank you so much for taking the time to read, as usual- love hearing your feedback ❤

Ok well this post made me super hungry! Really great post Jenny! I’m loving the maroon theme too, maroon is one of my favourite colours! I agree on Fifty Shades Darker too, I also went to see it last week and unfortunately it wasn’t as good as the book 😦 It definitely wasn’t bad though! Some really cute pictures here as well!xx

Aw thanks girlie!! 🙂 I love the maroon too, I don’t typically wear color- I’m generally an all black everything kind of dresser so to see the 3 of us matching was hilarious. And the whole 50 shades movie series is a total flop, which is such a bummer with how good the books were! Thanks so much for taking the time to read xoxo

Yeah I was skeptical on seeing 50 Shades because the rotten tomato score was just awful and I disliked the first one as well…but for a girls day-date, it was okay. This is the one book turned into a movie that just does not justify the content of the book, total bummer. And I’m obsessed with those sweatshirts, they’re my favorite and super cheap from Primark!! xo

I can’t believe you like oysters. They look very slimy and unappealing to me. Lol.
And I remember when I got a new pair omg! The trees had leaves lol. Luckily I can still sort of see without glasses but not very far (I’m near sighted).
Omg! Brick oven pizza!!!! I still can’t find a place like that around here. It’s like they’re non-existent.
Wow that blows! I’d be pissed but on the bright side, road trip. I miss road trips lol.
I love how you all matched! And burgundy is one of my favorite colors for clothes but I unfortunately don’t have anything burgundy. (I only recently bought one sweater but that’s it)
And I noticed that you guys go out to eat often. Lots of good places.

I thought the SAME thing about oysters, for the longest time I was like heck noooo I will not eat those but I think it was like two summers ago one of my friend’s ordered a dozen and was like just try it and I sucked it up (literally, LOL) and tried it and omg it was love at first taste haha you need to try it just once!!! Does your hubby like them?! And omg your glasses comment lmao, I’m the same near-sighted, so you can’t see far…is that right? Although I have my mom’s vision (SMH) both eyes are near sighted but one of them is becoming far sighted too….ugh #badeyesightproblems. And surprisingly I even own anything in color lol my friend’s were like theres no way she’ll be wearing the same color, she’ll be wearing all black, and the one time I’m not that happens lol

Nooo he doesn’t like them either hahaha. So we never have a reason to buy them or order them at restaurants lol. But I’ll think about it in the far future hahaha.
Yeah near sighted can only see what’s near you, I have blurry vision at like 5ft, it’s not that I can’t see, I just can’t see details. So if I was in class without glasses, I wouldn’t be able to see what the teacher is writing on board. In fact, that’s how I found out I needed glasses because I always sat way in the back so I could listen to my iPod lmao. But yeah that sucks. I’ve honestly never heard of someone having near sightedness AND far sightedness. But thank the higher power for glasses! My hubby went to get an eye exam and the dr said that around your mid 20s, your sight doesn’t get worse, and at times it will improve. Of course once you get super old then it probably start deteriorating again but I’m not sure. Ok enough about glasses and vision lol.
I usually always wear black. I can’t stop! Lol. I need a personal stylist to come and make outfits with all the clothes I have lol. I know patterns can be mixed and matched but idk how. That’s like advanced stuff lmao

hmmmm oysters!!! Can’t believe how great you look, when I see pizza and pasta on your pics :D. I gain weight so fast. But then again, it’s also because of the weekly French fries Fridays with the BF, who wouldn’t be able to live without his fries. Asking me to deny myself that is the hardest thing ever!! xoxo Sarah

I love oysters so much, I was so sad when we didn’t get to get them and now I have them on my mind. But woah what is this weekly French Fries Fridays?!!? Does he make homemade ones?! Have you guys had poutine before?

      • sarahscupofbeauty says:

Actually French fries are a Belgian thing. They make the best fries here in the world, I swear! We have wat we call Fritkots, which are little snack houses specifically for fries. And the BF will never pass a weekend without 1 visit per week, which always on Fridays. I never used to eat fries. So I gained a lot of weight since I met my BF. It’s so darn difficult not to eat it if he’s eating it before me, the smell alone is killing!! I’ll have to find something. When I prepare other foods, it’s just a huge miss… We of course also make home make fries, but it’s just not the same… Never heard of poutine!!! What is it?

        Liked by 1 person

      • xoJenny says:

Oh my goodness, you Belgiums have everything…waffles and now fries… I am such a sucker for fries and I’d totally add a few lbs for them lol At least you guys aren’t eating them every day….Friday’s seem to be pretty appropriate for alliteration purposes! And poutine is just french fries with gravy and cheese. I personally have never had them (YET) but I hear theyre amazing!

haha yes! We’re actually called Belgians ;D)). The typical Belgian things would be: beer, waffles, fries and chocolate! I love all 4 haha, even if the beer that I like more a “ladybeer”, with cherry taste! I have to say, ending my work week on a Friday with some fries and my taco, that makes me so happy!! Cheese on my fries sounds very weird haha. The typical way of eating is usually fries with gravy and mayo. You definitely should have that the day you visit Belgium!!! xoxo Sarah

Oh god I’m embarrassed LOL Idk as I was typing “Belgiums” I was like uhhh its gotta be right?!.. NOPE…definitely good to know for future references! Gravy and mayo, woah thats an interesting combination- I would certainly not be opposed to trying it!!!! xo

Haha no worries, I thought I’d say it, as Belgium is so small I sometimes think it’s a miracle people know about it! I usually have my fries with gravy and bicky sauce (based on cabbage, sooooo goood). Happy Friday!!! xoxo Sarah

LOLOL that was a great comment. I picked mine up yesterday and it was crazy what a huge difference the lenses made (also totally scary to think that my sight is getting worse) I wore my new ones for a couple hours to realize I didn’t really like the frames so I had to go back and exchange them. Being able to see to going back to my old lenses was such a tease lol

I agree, the thought of Lasik scares the crap out of me. I know some people that have gotten it and can of course see now, but I have an attachment to my glasses, I personally love wearing them so I don’t think I’d go through with the surgery either unless it was like a ‘I must do it or else I’ll be blind’ kind of thing lol

I love the ice castles. That is such a bummer you guys drove all that way and couldn’t see them!
Oh my gosh I saw Fifty Shades darker on Friday with my bestie! It was definitely interesting! I agree it was much better then the first!
Oh my gosh Park is really really good! Now I am hungry!
I definitely recommend reading the book version of The Girl on a Train. It is SOOO good!
I am glad you had such an amazing weekend! ❤

Aw yay thanks! I totally agree about the 50 Shades, no matter how “bad” people say the movie was, I still had to see it regardless- I’ve come to accept that movies will never be as good as books anyways. I’m anxious for the 3rd one to come out….I’m hoping it doesn’t take as long as this one did. My friend did tell me that they finished shooting the whole thing already but they’re of course broke it up so there was a 3rd one!

What, driving all that way to have to turn back around!?! How frustrating!! Hopefully you can arrange a trip back soon, the place looks pretty cool – literally haha and hey at least you got pizza! Glad you had a nice time with your girls, loads of people have said 5SD was no where near as good as the books, I just can’t remember it that well which is probably why I loved it. Also oh my God, If you loved The Girl On The Train movie you will LOVE the book seriously. I read the book first and would 100% say that was a million times better, I kinda wasn’t too impressed with the film (although I did enjoy it) but like you said with 5SD, nowhere near as good as the book. It’s probably best you watched the film first to be fair, but definitely read the book if you get a chance!! Glad you had a good weekend hun. X

It was suchh a bummer having to turn back around and sadly I think they close down for the year in early March. But theres always next year LOL I could barely remember the 50SD book as well which is why I think I enjoyed the movie a little more but overall I remember being on my toes throughout the whole book. I’m SOOO anxious to read Girl on the Train, I want to take a trip to the book store so bad and do a huge book haul, I definitely am going to add that to my list, I can’t stop thinking about it bc it was that good. I think I’m going to rewatch it again soon haha xo

Oh no, how annoying! Well if the time flies anything like last year did you won’t have to wait long lol. Ah I just want to reread the books now! Although maybe not until after the third films out to avoid disappointment lol. I agree it was much better than the first film by miles. Honestly I hope you love it, it’s so good and whilst the film was very true to the book there’s so many amazing scenes they missed out!! Yes, I swear I could spend 1000’s in a bookstore… Have you read The Ice Cream Girl? I feel like if you liked GOTT you would like this book, they’re not really similar but I just have a hunch lol. Ah it was amazing wasn’t it? Good idea, maybe when Andrews awake next time lol x
