So last Friday I said I was going to be back on here by Monday.. even with the 3-day weekend (President’s Day). Butttt I was wrong. I attempted to- but no cigar.
So today is my weekend recap. I’m going to try to make it short and sweet, because of all ya’ll weekend posters- I have a lot of catching up that I want to do 🙂
Andrew and I decided to have our Valentine’s dinner date- so we made reservations at Glenville Stops, a place we went to before in Allston, with the $1 oysters (I was so excited)
Well, we drove all the way there- could not find a single parking spot (if you know Allston-Brighton in Boston, it’s like the nice hipster area but with ZERO parking anywhere. Cars are lined up bumper to bumper along narrow streets, its just not my cup of tea) So we left called some other places but wait times were 1hr+ but inevitably we did find a place to go in the town over in Watertown…
My handsome date 🙂 and my meal: steak & ‘boom boom’ shrimp. If I could’ve just had a plate full of that shrimp- yummm….
And a little bonus, I FINALLY ordered new glasses frames with my updated prescription. If you’re someone with bad eyesight then you can understand my excitement- I can’t wait to see things more clearly again. He’s either sleeping or bored 😉
On this particular Saturday, I was so excited because Andrew and I were going to take the trip up North to see the Ice Castles in Lincoln, NH. It’s a little over a 2 hour drive for us to get there (4 hours total, mind you, there and back) so we off we went.
(PS- these are my favorite sweatshirts. I have it in this color, maroon which you’ll see soon, and a purple…all from Primark)
So we’re en route
Andrew grew up in NH and knew of this good pizza place so we stopped for lunch
Really cute place and really good brick oven pizza. Once our stomachs were full we continued our journey…
And then we FINALLY MADE IT.
The Ice Castles…. (from outside)A few things to take note of 1. Can you see that it took us quite some time to get to because it’s now pitch black out from when we were eating pizza
2. Neither of us knew what this place was really about. I’ve only ever seen pictures of it, some people I know have been and said it was cool. I envisioned it being like a ‘castle’ walk-through and at night they light it up different colors…
Well, turns out you need to buy tickets in advance and pick a time slot because they were SOLD OUT…Until today- TUESDAY! We went SATURDAY.
Can you feel our disappointment. I mean poor Andrew just drove our butts 2 hours there just to have to get back in the car and drive another 2 hours home… complete bummer.
After getting back home we did watch a fairly decent movie; Arrival. Anyone else see it?!
I was excited this day too because Renee and Beka both decided to come up and visit and we planned a nice little girls date; lunch and to go see 50 Shades Darker.
They got to my apartment and this happenedWe’re all just on the same wavelength apparently LOL (also-sweatshirt in maroon, which I’ve worn and showed it on the blog before….)
Back to my lovely lunch dates; Beka left, Renee right (you can read about them HERE if you haven’t already)
The movie was…exactly how I expected. Neither great nor terrible… Better than the first one for sure but not nearly as good as the books.
So happy to see these two. We couldn’t remember the last time the 3 of us all hung out but we were sadly missing our 4th who was at home with her little one.
Andrew and I decided to go venture out in Harvard Square for dinner like we used to when we lived in Somerville. If you can recall these adventures in some previous posts….
We were feeling awfully nostalgic of our whereabouts but frankly, I’m perfectly happy where we are now… still city-ish but more suburb-y. I don’t miss driving among bikers, walkers, and not being able to find parking.
But we did try a new place we haven’t been before called PARK, which I’ve heard on multiple occasions wonderful things about their dining and food.
And they weren’t kidding…it was probably one of the best meals I’ve had at a restaurant in a while. Everything was cooked to perfection. I got the brisket with brussel sprouts, and corn bread. And guys, I typically dislike cornbread, but I ate ALL of it on here. It was so good and I’m still dreaming of it.
And my love ❤
We I (Andrew fell asleep) ended the night watching THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN. I haven’t read the book but WOW, that movie was really good. Definitely a movie I’d watch again and I’m not typically one to rewatch a movie over again unless it’s one of my few select favorites. I really liked this one!
The weekend didn’t end there, we still had Monday BUTTT I’ll be sharing that tomorrow.
In the meantime, I’m off to do some blog reading!
