23. What I Spend Money On

Well for starters…

Just waiting on my money tree to start growing. Any day now πŸ˜‰

So what do I spend my money on…

Ain’t that the truth. I can’t help but to mewl when my bills are due. Not that any of you care about my bills but it’s something like: car (so thankful that no longer exists!), car insurance, cell phone, rent, utilities, credit card, gas. Β And idk if this counts but my health insurance and 401K come out of my check so I technically consider those bills too. And of course all the random bills that come about throughout the year; excise tax, tolls (I need an EZpass…ehem Andrew), car maintenance stuff, etc. Β I am however thankful that I have ZERO student loans due! All paid off the minute I graduated! Scholarships help!

Anyone else?!?! I have a serious online shopping addiction. I honestly managed to gain some self control over the years knowingly that I wanted to get my car payments done and over with. But I still dabble in some Amazon, retail, and makeup purchases here and there. And of course all the miscellaneous things I need for my every day life…

Andrew and I are trying to get better with buying groceries and eating at home opposed to eating out. And we’re actually pretty good about it. More him than me (I still need my sushi or pad thai deliveries!) But really, M-F we eat in and weekends are a mix of crock pot recipes or we’ll go out to eat.

Somehow I manage to afford a few vacations every so often. Which is so totally worth every single cent.

Anyone have any good money managing tips?? Please share them with me!

xo, JJ

Hahaha way to subtly call out Andrew for the EZ pass. You crack me up. That quote about, β€œI’m either wearing it, or I ate it”…. No truer words! DJ and I am firm believers in investing in memories, not things. So I think ya’ll have that same sort of mentality- vacations are so important! (And if you ever want to really justify it extra, just call it world education- that’s what I say! Haha). Oh AND you wanna look good in those pictures on that vacation- so the clothing is totally justifiable too πŸ˜‰

Thats so funny that you picked out the EZ pass thing because the minute he got into my car when I picked him up at the airport he TOTALLY made a remark about me calling him out on the ez pass. Boston is the worst with these tolls, there’s so many!! Is Cali like that too?!?! We totally have that same mentality; memories over things…. which may be we why still don’t have a couch (or TV) in our living room haha but really, california or couch… I think we know whose gonna win that one! πŸ™‚

Hahaha- oh Andrew. We don’t have many tolls surprisingly! (At least not near us). And you have no idea how much I love that you don’t have a couch or TV in your living room currently…. remember how we didn’t have bedside lamps for the longest time in our bedroom? Yep, still don’t. Hahahhaha. And if Cali doesn’t win out on that battle than there is something seriously wrong! lol. Can’t wait to catch up on your blog today. I finally have a bit of time to breathe!

I’m totally the same with the online shopping. It’s especially dangerous if I’m doing it at night since I’m more susceptible to buying stuff I don’t need…then I wake up and totally regret my decision!

You make me laugh, girl! Haha the pic of the speck of money lolol. Also, I am the same way when I click “add to cart.” It’s like I have no control. Oh, and when I am in Target, stuff jumps off the shelves and dives into my cart as soon as it hears me squealing down the aisle. I

Tell me about it…bills are the worst! Hopefully you’re saving and have an emergency fund along with that 401k lol. πŸ˜‰
I’ve been pretty good about online shopping. It’s never been a problem for me. Lol. I don’t want to start though haha.
Grocery shopping is fun! Especially when you find recipes on Pinterest that you can make from scratch. I still don’t have a crockpot πŸ˜”
In terms of money managing…well, I’m taking a personal finance class at my college. I’ve been thinking about whether I should include tips that I’ve learned there lol. What do you think??

    • xoJenny says:

YESSS give me ALL the tip you’ve learned from the class! It’s actually funny because on the same floor as my company is a finance company who ALWAYS comes by and is like “come to our manage your money seminar” but I never go to it. I really should ORRRR I could just read it off your blog πŸ™‚ Totally do it, and if not just send me the gist of it via email or something lol

I’m going to start working on it this week. It will also give me a chance to study as I go through the book and write the blog post simultaneously hahahaha! I will do my best to write it so it applies to beauty/fashion bloggers as well as regular life lol.

Such an entertaining post JJ- I loved the use of the meme type pics! Bills are pesky but I always try to remember that a) I’m blessed to have the money to pay those bills and b) I’m getting something in return, it’s easy to forget but paying our bills is what keeps a roof over our head / gives us hot water ect, so I try not to begrudge them too much! Eating out is definitely something I send a lot of my money on! I try to always save on drinks by just getting tap water, stops me feeling so bloated too. And yesss holidays are the best thing to spend your money on! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰ ps hurray for paying off your car πŸŽ‰ Well done hun xxx

So I have been away, with limited internet access, and came back today to find it….What the heck WordPress?
Also not impressed with mother nature at all. I really do not want to come back East!
Loved reading what you spend your money on. Girl I am the same way! It is amazing how much rent, groceries, utilities etc cost. I eat in a lot too and Trader Joes is my go too because it is so cheap!
Internet is the bang of my existence. It is so easy to click and keep clicking!
I love that you spend your money on vacations! Memories are definitely much better then things! Hope you are having an amazing weekend beauty! ❀

Omg yes, are you back?!!!? I literally have been anxiously awaiting to read a San Fran post by you because holy crap your pictures are amazing and I want to know every single place and detail of what you did and where you went lol I can’t even begin to imagine rent, utilities, and groceries over in NYC! I thought Boston was bad but you guys I’m sure have it worse! ($$$ wise) Although when I think about it though- its actually worth it with where we live and the lives we get to have out in our designated locations! I guess we’re pretty lucky in the end πŸ™‚

Yes I am! I know! I have been slacking! lol. Oh my gosh, not that you can ever take to many pictures BUT if you can I probably did ;p
It is a lot. I agree with you. It is all about location and what we have readily available at out finger tips. In NH I would be paying less, but I wouldn’t have the city culture that I love so much here. there are trade-offs too. Being so close to an airport tickets are a lot cheaper and usually without layovers too. We really are! Despite hating the flipping cold right now (thanks mother nature) I love that I get to come back to a city that is open regardless of the weather :p I hope you are having an amazing weekend beauty! ❀

For me, it’s definitely food and clothes so the featured photos for this post is very relevant hahaha. Bills are the least exciting things to spend money on and I’m really not looking forward to that when I move out again! Buuuut at least it means that you and Andrew have your own place! Personally, I always feel happiest to spend my money on experiences, including holidays, so I’m happy to live fairly humbly but enjoy a few breaks away here and there throughout the year! I love all the photos and quotes in this post hahahah – definitely brightened up my Sunday! xxx

Bills are such a drag but you’re so right it’s so worth knowing that Andrew and I have our own place together (I didn’t even think about it that way) And all of a sudden I feel better about it, you have such a sweet outlook ❀ Vacations/holiday's are soo necessary esp for my sanity haha. If only I could spend all of my money towards trips and getaways… I probably wouldn't even need the apartment anymore because I'd just travel my way through life haha

Bill’s seriously taught me the value of money lol NOWWW I know what my mom meant back in the day when she said money doesn’t grow on trees- darn! Thanks so much for coming by and reading!!! xoxox

We actually have an excel sheet for all our spendings and my hubby uses that to keep track of EVERYTHING, including our savings and expenditures and so forth. We have actually divided them into categories like entertainment, groceries, etc so we can keep track better. It does help to see where everything is going and helps us manage accordingly.

Omg that is so smart- I feel like I could really benefit from doing something like that to keep track of all my money/spendings. I do it with my work expenses (mostly because I have to lol) but I should really considering doing it with my own funds too. Really good suggestion!! xoxo
